Mentoring should be happening in 2 places & why

I love what mentoring provides people. It is one of the things I credit for any personal growth I have in my life up to now.

A mentor is someone with experience and that you trust that can advise. This person could be younger than you, around the same age as you or older than you.

I often tell people I meet with that they should have at least one mentor that is 20 years older than them and should be meeting at least monthly. This gets harder the older you get.

I want to share 3 places mentoring should be happening.

Let me share the why first and it’s simple. The why is because we all should be learning from someone that has done it before us.

The 2 places we definitely should be developing mentoring programs:

  1. In the workplace, we should be building mentoring programs. We definitely should be matching new staff with veteran staff for at least the first year of their employment.

  2. In every school across America there should be mentoring program. Experience and trusted adults coming in to spend time with students to help shape them for life after school.

Better companies means better economy and quality life for people. Better students mean evidently better companies and better world overall.

Does your workplace have a mentoring program?
