#29 Shavon Jackson Young

Shavon Jackson is starting her 20th year ad an educator. She has served as a Secondary English Teacher, English Department Chair, Coach, Instructional Facilitator, Assistant Principal, and currently, Elementary Principal. During her ten years in the classroom, she earned the building Teacher of the Year Award in Edmond and Guthrie, Oklahoma. Jackson is a transformational leader. This is evidenced by her most recent work at Crawford Elementary where she led her school from a D to a B rating in three years. Through collaborative efforts, Jackson led her students and staff on a journey to excellence. Since 2017, Crawford has earned numerous awards and accolades based on their academic growth. In 2020, Crawford was awarded a National Blue Ribbon from the U.S. Department of Education, and Jackson was one of nine Principals nationally to earn the Terrel H. Bell Award, named after a former U.S. Secretary of Education. Jackson is passionate about helping others reach their full potential. She is collaborative in her efforts and understands that voice and choice play a major role in leading change efforts to scale. Jackson believes that all students can learn at high levels. Thus, she is intentional with providing the right supports for educators and students to aid in instructional, academic, social, and emotional growth. She is an advocate for culturally responsive teaching and shares best practices with colleagues throughout the state on topics such as culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive practices in order to help educators create safe and welcoming learning environments for all students.
