What I have learned in 2021 from writing almost 1000 handwritten notes

Every year for at least 5 years, I have set out to write a 1000 handwritten notes. I believe in the power of handwritten notes.

A handwritten note is like me giving out red balloons. It says I see you in the world and I appreciate you.

People sometimes just need that little touch that says your special and that's why I try to show up everyday and write at least 3 handwritten notes.

What have I learned from writing handwritten notes:

  1. You have to be okay with them being short. I can't do a 1000 longform handwritten notes. I don't have the time and again my notes or more so just acknowledging people.

  2. You have to have a system. 3 a day.

  3. Also, tracking is important. I use a spreadsheet to track who I sent a note to.

  4. Getting addresses is the hardest part. I have started using an app to get addresses from people when I meet with them or do a podcast. Sometime Google comes through for me.

  5. It can't be about me because I will stop writing them. It has to be for a greater purpose and I have to truly believe notes matter to people. I believe they do because when I walk in people's offices they have them on their wall.

I have to go write my notes for today.

Will you join me and write a 1000 handwritten notes in 2022?
