What it means to be a TEAM

Yesterday I went to hang and speak with a class of Jr. High students in the town I live in. It was the Student Council class.

I personally work with this class to have a guest speaker from the community twice a month. They talk to the students about various things but typically around the work they do and community leadership.

The students also ask questions. They have some really good questions too.

I kicked off the year by talking about what it means to be a team. We did some activities around this as well.

Here are the 4 things we talked about:

  1. Together is better. I told them that when people hold hands it’s a greater sign that we are together than not together. Also, when we lock arms we are stronger. Being a team is about being together. Who are you locking arms with so you can be better, stronger.

  2. Everyone is needed. If they’re on the team, they’re needed. We talked about how as a community everyone is needed to play their part in order for us to be successful.

  3. Assume never. Communication is one of the keys to a championship team. We can never assume that people know where they should be or that everyone is on the same page or that… The list can go on and on. Assume never. Communicate always.

  4. Motivate. We all should be motivating one another to get better, to stay in the game, to be focused and to make the sacrifices for the good of the team.

Remember ladies and gentlemen- team work makes the dream work.
