How long have you been teaching?
20 + years
What grade do you teach?:
9th-12th
What's your favorite school supply?
Pens!! I am addicted to buying them!
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Patti Butts. She taught English at Deer Creek HS. She was so relatable and down to earth. She had a great influence on our class! We still keep in touch to this day!
What is your super power to be able to rock out the work you do?
I love to be able to "be there" for all of the kids. Not just in my class, but for all of the kids. You never know what they are going through in their personal lives. A lot of them call me Momma Kroth!
What made you want to teach?
I had a friend in 4th grade who had Epilepsy and used to stay in at recess with him, because he wasn't allowed to go out. He was an awesome friend! I didnt want him to be alone everyday!
What gets you up everyday to go give your all to teaching?
Just seeing one little "spark"..or that break through moment is worth all of the hard work!
If you could change one thing about education, what would you change?
The way public looks at educators and education as a whole. We as educators used to be respected more and appreciated. We are asked to do more each year and expected to do things that should be taught at home.
Teachers are...
Invincible!!
What is one tip you would share to be a successful teacher?
The one thing that I have to be in my classroom is flexible but structured!!
What would you do if you were not teaching?
I would have probably been a nurse.
The last time you cried at the end of the day teaching was because of what?
Seeing the look of adoration on the face of one of my kids for one of our peer tutors!!
Who inspires you in your work and why?
I have the pleasure of having peer tutors in my classroom. They are students who come into my class and volunteer their time and or take my class as a credit such as a office aide. They go above and beyond the Call of Duty and come in before class after school and anytime anything's needed. They truly touched my heart. Our kids love them and feel so close to them. It's truly a wonderful experience to witness!
How would you describe a conversation with one of your students?
Entertaining and informative!
What is it that the world does not know about teachers?
Teachers don't just teach their students..they teach us as well.
Share your biggest joy teaching as of today?
Watching one of my kids show a sheep at our Blue Jay Classic. She has always been afraid of animals but she did it and loved it. She participates every year, even after Graduation!
One thing that makes you smile?
The looks on the faces of my kids at our Blue Jay Classic. Guthrie FFA puts on a stock show every year for our Special Jays. The Ag kids love what they do and are so excited to help our kids succeed in their event! It's a great time and warms my heart!
