Tell the world your name.

Suzanne Hubbard

Where were you born specifically?

I was born September 16th 19-something, in Brooklyn, New York.

When did you move to Guthrie?

My family moved to Guthrie in 1977. After a made a lot of friends who would turn out to be life-long friends, we moved to New Mexico.

What's your favorite Guthrie-related memory?

For me it was my teenage years! Many of my friends and I would meet at the Teen Center (I believe it was an old jail at one time. Sits on the NE corner of Noble and 2nd St) The upper level had dancing and the lower level you could shot pool or play video games. Afterwards, we'd head to the Hilltop Cafe for the best greasy food ever before heading home!

What's the best part about living in Guthrie?

The beauty of it! I love the old historic buildings and the stories behind them! As a child I didn't really appreciate it but that changes as you grow older.

What does Guthrie have that other towns don't?

Ahhh...Red Brick Nights! I don't know of another town or city that offers what Guthrie has to offer when it comes to family fun and entertainment! AND...the Beacon Drive-In, My kids and grand kids make the drive from Stillwater to attend both since they aren't so lucky up north lol

Are you a GHS alumni?

1982! Our class still remains as tight as ever and we all try to get together even outside of class reunions.

If you lived here at some point and moved back why?

In 2013, my husband and I came to Guthrie's Territorial Christmas and a few weeks later our home in Stillwater was on the market and by April 2014, GuthrieAmerica was our "new" home again.

Where do you currently work and how long?

I proudly work for the City of Guthrie! I am one of the utility clerks and Guthrie's 1st ever, "Certified" Municipal Court Clerk.

What do you love most about your job?

I love everything about my job, especially the people I work with and deal with on a daily basis! But, my most favorite part would have to be the people we get to serve every day. True, we can sometimes have hectic days and some days we are not the most liked but when just one person acknowledges your time and effort in helping them, it makes it all worth it. We have a great team in our office and we all do our best to make the citizens of Guthrie as well as one another, know that they matter, we care and we are here to help.

If you grew up in Guthrie and had your first job here...where? Did you get fired?

My first job was at the Sonic and yes, I got fired lol. You had to be 16 years old to work there and they found out I had just turned 15 yrs.

Do you have family here?

Yes, my brother Louis and his family. My brother has called Guthrie home for over 40 yrs now. He's one of the original War Eagles lol....long story so I'll save it for another day (haha)

How did you first hear or learn about the GuthrieAmerica brand?

I first saw it during Red Brick Nights! Also about the time, Heady was promoting it pretty strong....I love it! GuthrieAmerica!

Why do you wear GuthrieAmerica tee?

I wear mine because I am proud to be from our little city! When we go on vacation, I take ALL my GuthrieAmerica tee's with me and proudly wear them in other cities and states. People will ask me "where is GuthrieAmerica?" or "What does GuthrieAmerica mean?" so it gives you an opportunity to share your story and home! While traveling to Chicago during our last vacation, I called Boutique 206 while we were on the road and had them ship one to my sister because I didn't get a chance to pick her up one before leaving to see her! They got it to her in less than a week and she loves hers!

What are your favorite things to do in Guthrie?

I'm a big fan of Red Brick Nights, Beacon Drive-In, and walking! I walk every day at lunch and every evening that I get the chance!

How would you define what it means when you hear or say COMMUNITY WINS?

\My definition of Community Wins is this: When we come together as a community, to help each other, share with one another, being kind to each other, and reaching for the same goals to improve our home city, we all win. Something so simple as a "good morning", holding a door open, giving a smile, or just letting someone know that "THEY" make a difference can be a real game changer!

Anything significant about your life you would like to share?

My life is pretty simple now. I try to be kind to everyone, even when someone makes it extremely hard. Kindness always wins. Those who know me best and the longest will tell you, I love to make people happy and I will help anyone I can! I am very emotional when it comes to animals...so much so, I have to limit what I see when it comes to animals being abandoned or abused. I am very family oriented and it's very rare that you will see me on a weekend without one of my grand babies. I love God and thank Him for all the blessings in my life!

Lastly, we love SHOUT OUTS! Who do you want to give a shout out to?

Oh wow...there are too many! Rebecca Blaine and Heady Coleman for being such positive souls! When I see their posts on social media, I can't help but smile and feel happy! Also to Kim Biggs, Jesse Bryan, Rhonda Braggs, Sue Snow, and our newest member to our work family, Mary Gregorio! You ladies make EVERY day at work, fun and enjoyable! Without you ladies, our job would be just a job. Thanks!

Wait, one more. What does it mean to CHOOSE GUTHRIE?

Supporting our community! Whether it's shopping, entertainment, or picking a place to call home...choose Guthrie! Promote our city and let others know that we have what most places don't...a winning attitude and people who are proud to be a part of GuthrieAmerica and call her "HOME".
