GO WIN DERRICK SIER
Name?
Derrick Sier
Where are you from?
Tulsa, Oklahoma
What was one of your favorite things growing up?
Ride my bike. My friends and I used to ride everywhere. Especially during the summer. Yes, after school and weekends, but bikes were created for the summer!
Who was your best friend growing up?
I don't think I've ever had one. I usually rolled in groups. It wasn't until I became an adult and friendships started to thin that I became a one friend type of guy.
Money was of no concern what would you be doing?
Speaking. All of the time. Everywhere. On relationships. Not romantic necessarily. Just about people connecting in a positive and healthy way.
Can you share something that embarrasses you?
Public confrontation is embarrassing to me. I usually try to avoid it at all cost.
Do you have a favorite app on your phone right now?
My wife and I share Cozi. It's a family calendar. Even the dog is on there.
Tell me the 3 best things about you.
I love hard. I laugh loud. I have high energy.
What does good communication mean to you?
It means clarity. People understand you. You understand them. You both understand the situation. You don't have to think the same thoughts or even agree. As long as you know where the other person stands, you both are good. People often classify communication as effective or good if the outcome is resolution or agreement. I don't think that's always the case.
Who is a great communicator in your life and why?
My son. He communicates the most complex of concepts in the most detailed of ways. He communicates with his facial expressions, tone and inflection of voice, body movements and mannerisms. He relays the message with his whole self, something I aim to do when I speak.
What is your favorite way to learn?
Experientially. I want to do it. Don't tell me about it. I don't want to read about it. Show me, then let me do it. OR let me do it, then let's talk about it.
Tell us something you have learned lately?
The difference between being busy and productive. And how to drive a 15 passenger van in 35 mph winds. I'll never forget either.
Your favorite person in the world and why?
This is a tough one. I really admire my kids. They face a lot these days. And somehow, for the most part, they have managed to remain innocent and pure. They go to school and resist the urge to be conform. They love where hate is thick. They adjust to an ever-changing educational system. They are fairly independent and crave responsibility. They are seriously legit.
Who is someone that adds value to your life and how?
My wife has continued to raise my stock.
How do you go about planning your day?
I usually plan out my weeks. I used to be a day-planner, but switched to the week approach a while back. I don't think there's a better way over the other. It just depends on the person. I'm a week kinda guy. I do have daily routine tho. It stays pretty consistent. Shower. Kids. Social media. Work. Social media. Extra-curricular. Family. Social media. TV. Sleep.
Are you a goal setter?
I try to be. I do best with small goals. Large goals tend to be a bit more daunting for me.
What's a big goal you have at the moment that you can share?
I am putting the final touches on a book. It should be out soon. Update - Book is here
Is there anything that you're measuring in your life right now and how?
The number of books I can read in a year. I'm on my fifth.
Which of your friends tell the best stories about you?
My dad. Agh! He's such a good story teller. He remembers things that no one else does and tells them in the most animated of ways.
Do you have a favorite story to tell about one of your friends?
When I was in middle school, I had this friend who would always break stuff when he visited my house. I mean....without fail, he would always find something to break. Something! Well, every-so-often, I would break something and put it back to where the next person who touched it, would break it. I can't tell you how many times this guy got in trouble for me. Beds. Ceiling fans. Tables. Doors. Picture frames. He'll probably get mad when he reads this. LOL!!
What's the one question you ask someone you want to get to know better?
I ask what are you doing for fun these days? It usually opens the door to everything else.
What are you doing for fun these days?
It usually opens the door to everything else.
If you had a million dollars, how would you use it?
Completely pay off my debt. Pay for my kids' post-high school education. Set up a scholarship fund for my mentor group. Sit on the rest.
What's one simple way to show kindness tomorrow?
Smile. And hug. I'm a hugger.
6 things you should be consistent in to live out a GO WIN LIFESTYLE?
Read. Pray. Serve. Save. Travel. Dream.
