GuthrieAmerica Story: Beth Mayer

Let me start by saying my name is Beth Mayer. Wasn’t born in Guthrie, but I have lived here my whole life except for two years.

I was actually physically born at Mercy Hospital in the big city south of Guthrie. If you didn’t know, that’s Oklahoma City, not Edmond.

Thinking about my favorite memory of Guthrie, I would say it has to be 89er Day. When I was little, I would always get a new prairie dress with matching umbrella, of course. I absolutely loved getting to watch the horses trot across the river during this time of year.

My kids growing up in Guthrie around their cousins is one of the best parts about living in Guthrie. But also, the support we give one another when someone is in need is big time special too, which leads into Guthrie having a sense of safety and security for me.

I’m proud to have graduated, much love to the class of 1999, from a town that I now see a number of eager citizens wanting to make Guthrie better and get more of the community involved.

Talking about graduating, I didn’t play any sports in high school. Well, unless showing livestock is considered a sport. From that experience of showing lifestock, I learned a bunch about public speaking, which I feel is a tool I use everyday now. A big thanks to my agriculture teachers.

Oh, I also danced at Dance with Me Studios all through high school.

I did move from Guthrie. It was short lived as I mentioned earlier. It was because of work. But as soon as we had my oldest son, we moved back. As I stated earlier, I think Guthrie offers a safe place to live. Plus, all my awesome family lives close. Love having family near.

My first job in Guthrie was babysitting for family and friends. But, I would say my first real job was lifeguarding. I worked at Highland Park pool and the Guthrie Country Club.

I saw the GuthrieAmerica tees and I thought they were cool. I bought one from Boutique 206 here in Guthrie. Now, when I bought it, I didn’t know they had a real story behind them or purpose. It was just another cool tee shirt to me. Until the Founder and close family friend Heady shared with me the story behind the brand.

For me, I love what the GA brand stands for. I feel like the community have gotten more involved by having fun with the brand, especially the tee shirts. I definitely feel it has made a positive impact on Guthrie and given us a boost to strive to be a better community.

I wear the tees because I think they’re cool and a great conversation starter. I love for people to know where I’m from. I’m proud of my town.

We have local block parties that are really cool. They’re one of my favorite things to do in Guthrie. They make for a fun night out with family and friends. We have great shopping and cool coffee shops. I know it sounds silly but my favorite thing in the mornings is starting my day driving across Guthrie Lake dam. There is just something soothing and relaxing about the calmness and beauty of the water.

Let me not leave without saying that I married a hunk of a man. He and I met in high school. Yes, we were high school sweethearts. I didn’t know that he would eventually become an Ironman.

I want to give a shout out to Companion Home Health for buying all their employees’ children school supplies. Thank you Jeff Chappell. Also, thank you to Heady because it is impossible to have a bad or negative day with his social media happiness. He is always posting a super positive quote or a few words or a video. It’s contagious. So, thank you Heady.
